Allowed to be angry - Self Help for creatives

I have had a bad day; well two days actually. Every time I tell someone this I get the traditional "cheer up" or "Oh that's too bad" It really got me annoyed (not just because I was already angry). Apparently we are not allowed to be angry. I missed this memo.

Normally creative types are laid back and hard to rouse. We have to be; we are often criticized and analyzed by buyers, friends and strangers who just want to weigh in. This is worse if you are a struggling artist, meaning it is your only job and sometimes your idea well goes dry. Still even the most laid back people can have bad days.

I honestly like my bad days. They clear the air. Most of my work is emotional and anger is still an emotion so it drives me. I have a get rid of things component with my anger. I will clean out until I have a nice clear place to sit and see nothing. Very symbolic when I'm angry I like nothing.

This not a bad thing to me. We all need to clear out sometimes and start from scratch. Regroup, rethink and revise our area to suit our now calmer self. It makes sense when you really think of it. You became angry in a certain environment, it probably built up and was reflected around you so clearing it give you a chance to start fresh. That said you are allowed to get angry, and use the anger to do something positive.

The kitchen staple..Tortillas

It is that time of year again and I'm baking up a storm. In the last week I have been making pita, tortillas and chips (because who can eat that many tortillas)  I don't like cooking, I tend to do it in spurts. The logic is more, "Well this bowl was used for that so I'll make this then I don't need to clean it." I am truly that lazy. I put off cleaning the bowl for 3 or more different mixes. Leading to cooking marathons on the weekends and a weeks worth of food in the freezer.

There is something very therapeutic about making tortillas from scratch and then into chips when there is leftovers. It defiantly makes me feel in control of my my food. While I don't fancy myself a "health nut" I do like to be able to pronounce the ingredients in my food. That and I am very picky and want to control the taste of what I am eating.

Tortillas are my favorite thing to make. Mixing and rolling the dough then cooking it and making about 4 meals out of it and chips for snacks I love how a little bit of flour and shorting go so far. This year I'm using my Santa Fe Wrap master and making corn tortillas. I love this gadget!

Burritos, Fajitas, enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas and chips. One simple thing with whatever else I have on hand equals a cycle that has been very helpful in keeping me creating. I always have something on hand to snack on. I don't worry about meal planning as it was already done. Best of all it is healthier and tastier for me and my family.

Small pricing rant

Well I was going to buy my favorite bath bomb, sold by the little fizzy tablet. I like it but it's not like I get out feeling like I found the fountain of youth. Nor does it provide me a manicure, pedicure or even a massage.  Goodness it's a bath additive! When speaking of “one use” a bath additive is top of the list. I obviously need to rethink my pricing if something that is literally going down the drain is $15.00. Some of my clients have had their jewelry for years now. Okay, end of rant.

Thank you Pinot noir...

I had a bit of inspiration. I figured out why my pendants sell better alone then with a necklace.

We all have chains. I myself only buy pendants. I already have chains, I have a ton of chains; I even have a few favorites. I just change the pendants. I need to start creating and listing just pendants. Keep an eye out.

So busy

It's March and I have finally managed to snag some free time. I need to send a big thanks to all who have come to my events and appearances. I am happy so many of you are taking advantage of my jewelry repair & watch battery change service. It is a lot of fun to meet and talk with you and it feels great to be able to do something for you.

Artfest was great this year, so many talented and wonderful artists in one spot! Beautiful glass workers, photographers and mixed media artists. I am also happy to announce my "Mermaid Dream" crystal & glass necklace won the blue ribbon in jewelry at the SW Fl Fair.  So we will add it to the "on display not for sale list."

As many of you have noted I've been teaching more and making less. That may or may not change. Right now I am quite happy with my jewelry appraising, repair and teaching aspects. Besides, it is always good to take a break and work for someone else.

For now, I am purging my private jewelry collection on ebay,  my current offerings on etsy are all I have. So grab the one of a kinds while you can.
